Stevie Wonder, or Stevie for short, has poor vision. He came from a pet shop and quickly found himself unwanted when his disability emerged.
Stevie is a bright playful puppy who is looking for a special home where he will be loved and cared for and kept safe. Our vet says the poor vision is probably brain related and he also occasionally circles to the left. Stevie has had a MRI which confirms he has hydrocephalus, commonly known as water on the brain. Stevie has started medications to generally help fluid to be reduced in the body as well as the brain.
10 June Update: The Radiologist has looked over the MRI and is gloomy about his prognosis. From an MRI point of view the changes are quite a high grade. It is likely that this was a problem that probably started developing as a foetus and not something since birth as the appearance of the dilated areas of the brain that have fluid in them are so irregular. For this reason he is not a candidate for shunt surgery. The neurologist agrees with the radiologist and also commented that some of his brain lobes are not properly developed. We have started him on some medications. So Stevie will always be a disability pup who needs extra care to keep him clean. He cannot negotiate stairs. He can walk on lead but at the speed of an old dog. Otherwise he is a happy pup who knows no different. He enjoys his squeaky toys and playing with other dogs. He weighed 13.5kg at 8 mths.
