Darlene is a gentle mature lady who has had a hard life and lots of pups in the past. This is what her foster Mum says: Affectionate and loving girl. She is fearful and nervous with visitors (even close family and friends), but fine with strangers on street, as long as they don’t attempt to pat her. She does not like being locked away when visitorstradesmen come, will bark, whine and scratch the door. She does not like being stared at or having a smartphone aimed at her for too long to take photos. She can sit, spin and almost stay (but not for long, a work in progress) on command. She is not suitable around children, as likely to knock them over. She is the perfect companion at home with direct family members. She will not touch any furnishings or garden plants, unless there is food there. She cannot be trusted with any food within jumping distance, even if contained, as she is a skilled at locating and unpacking food. She loves having her belly rubbed, kissing and cuddling. Does not like having her ears cleaned or nails trimmed, but will tolerate a shower as long as her head does not get wet and it involves treats.
Loves walks in all weather and can heel but is very intolerant of other dogs, will lunge, pull and bark. She is , very strong on lead. She does not like heavy traffic or car backfiring, will stop abruptly and want to turn back. She is a good eater, not fussy with food, loves her snacks and treats and does not beg at the table. She adores spending time in bed with her humans, will sleep for hours undisturbed, also happy to spend time in her own bed either in the home or out basking in the sun. This is a dog with an unfortunate history of abuse that just wants to live out her remaining retirement days with people who understand and love her. She has a smooth coat and weighs 25.7kg.
