Dakota is currently in foster and has thrived in a home environment, happily spending her days indoors while her Foster Family are at work. Dakota understands many commands, and likes to follow people around the house to check up on them. At dinner time, she sits and waits for her food to start eating on command. With treats, she takes them off to her bed or to the garden to munch on them happily. Dakota is an active girl who loves to go for walks, or run after a tennis ball. When walking she is initially full of excitement, but soon settles down as long as there are no other dogs around. She walks loosely on long lead, and is learning to walk loose lead beside her walker. In the garden, she will fetch the tennis ball wherever you throw it. She loves catching it mid air also. As long as the ball is available, she will bring it to you and want to play. If there is a water source available, she will be in it to cool off. We do not know if she can swim as she has only been in 10cm deep water during her foster. She also loves to play with water spray. Like most dogs, bath time is tolerated but not her favourite activity, but she will stand in the shower to be bathed. When it is time to settle down, she becomes a loveable snuggler. She loves to cuddle up to people and sleep with her head in their lap. Once she is comfortable with new people, she will happily accept a pat and a belly rub. Though tennis balls are her first love, Dakota loves squeaky toys and going treat hunting. Her foster family often hide treats both inside and outside, which Dakota goes hunting for with a very waggily tail!
Dakota gets over excited when near other dogs, so she is best to be the only dog in the home. She is wary of strangers when she first meets them and needs the chance to go up to them rather than they go near her. Once introduced and a treat given, she settles down really quickly. She has so far loved every person she has been introduced to.
Dakota would suit an active adult household as an only pet with a medium to large yard and may be suited to older calm children as Dakota can become boisterous if over excited. Volunteers say Very excitable at first and pulled on lead. Settled down to walk nicely, good pace and likes to jog. She loves treats. Friendly temperament, slightly nervous. Loves puddles and mud. She is still nervous walking near other dogs but not aggressive., Very energetic at the start but soon settled and really enjoys a pat and cuddle she would do best with an active sporty family. She sits on command and is a very smart. She has a short coat and weighs 21kg.
